HISTORY and BACKGROUND
Montclair Primary School was established as a Government School in its present location on 4 August 1925. It was to serve the Montclair and Woodlands communities as a parallel medium school (English and Afrikaans) with classes from Class i to Standard 6. It was much later to become a single medium English Primary school after the establishment of an Afrikaans Medium school in the area.
In the early 1970’s, the school was split into a Junior Primary (Class 1 to Std. 1) and Senior Primary school (Std 2 to Std 5) as a result of large numbers. At that time, the school was the largest Primary school in Natal with an enrolment of over 900 learners. The two schools, although closely linked, still remain as two separate schools today.
In 1988, the old buildings of the Senior Primary School were converted into accommodation for a Pre-Primary school serving the area and when this school closed down, these buildings were occupied by the Montclair Junior Primary School. In August 1992, this school became a State-aided school (Model C). The school is now a State school.
